Check out the story behind our stop and see the photos that almost didn't happen.

My year has again been defined by travel: I've spent 21 weeks driving all over the United States chasing Bassmaster tournaments and wonderful landscape locations. That's left little time to spend in my beloved swamps of home, although I did squeeze in a few days when my bud Rick Berk drove down for his first Louisiana swamp experience in late May. Otherwise, I've spent so much time out of state that I've neglected my work in the swamps. That changed in late November, when I finally loaded up the boat and headed to Lake Maurepas for this sunset I'll always remember!

Click through to read more about the new print and compare it to the original!
I occasionally am asked by artists for permission to reproduce my fine-art prints, and I normally politely decline because, well, this is how I make my living. However, a few months ago I was asked by a client if she could use my print "Clingman's Dome Sunset" as the model of a quilt she was making for her brother. I was intrigued and agreed, as it's not as easy to make copies of a quilt. I was blown away with the final product! Learn more about the quilt and the meaning behind it.

I wrapped up a Bassmaster Central Open tournament on Lake Pickwick May 1, and started looking around for something to shoot on the way home — and I came across Caney Creek Falls in Northwest Alabama. It would add an extra 1.5 hours to my drive, but several entires on the internet said Caney Creek Falls is the most beautiful waterfall in Alabama. That was all it took. It's December 2020, and it's been a long, crazy year. Understatement, I know. The Covid-19 quarantine messed up my schedule (just like everyone else's), and the result was I had a bunch of Bassmaster tournaments rescheduled one after the other. I've been home for less than three weeks since Sept. 22, so I'm heading to the mountains with my wife for some much needed down time!

The Appalachian Mountains hold a special place in my heart. The lower portion of the range — specifically the Blue Ridge Mountains — was where I spent childhood vacations pretty much every summer. And that means I'll have days between each event during which I will roam the mountains with my Tiny Camper Company camper and shoot new work for my online gallery!

I love to spend time in the Louisiana swamp when I'm not traveling. Click through to learn more about how I create stunning nighttime photos of the Louisiana swamp!
